On What are you Feeding

Do you remember the weather last Wednesday? It rained off and on all day. It was a dark and gloomy day that followed several days of beautiful spring weather. I stood at the back door thinking, "What a yucky day." As I stood there listening to the drizzling rain, I heard a mocking bird break into song. That brightened my mood a bit. Then as I continued to gaze out the door, I saw a bird land on the birdhouse in the backyard. I watched for a while and noticed that bird perching in front of the bird house and seemed to be feeding its young in in the bird house. That brightened my mood even more. In spite of the rain the bird continued taking care of its family and seemed quite cheerful in doing so.

It made me think. How we perceive our situation depends a great deal on what we feed ourselves and what we are able to feed others. I was standing there feeding on gloomy thoughts while the birds were full of song and parental devotion. In our present situation we can choose to feed on the uncertainty and fear or we can choose to feed on faith in the God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We can choose to huddle in our cocoons of self-pity or we can look about and see who we can feed with encouragement and joy. As for me and my house, we shall choose to feed on faith and share joy. What will you choose to feed on and share this week?
