Under his wings to witness

Last week in in my devotional I told the story about a chick that was saved from drowning in a storm by finding shelter under the wings of its mother. I shared how Jesus longs to have His children under His wings to save them from the storm of judgment that is coming to each of us Each of us will stand before God and give an account of how we have lived our lives. Those who have repented of their sins and live in obedience to Christ will be taken to heaven to live forever with Him where there is no more tears and pain. Where there is eternal peace and joy. Those who have not repented of their sins and live in disobedience to Christ will be forever in hell where there is weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. Christ calls us to be His witnesses to share His call to those in our community, those in our neighborhoods, those in our workplaces, those in our classes, to let them know the Savior of the world is not willing that any should perish, but that all should go to Him and rest under His wings and be saved from the storm to come.

We don’t know when the storm of judgment will come. However, the briefest glimpse of the news today informs us that there are other storms that are raging all around us. The storms caused by inequality. Storms caused by Covid -19. Storms caused by unemployment. Storms of all kinds and all types. Jesus calls us to share His call to those who are weary and heavy laden to come to Him for rest from their storms. There is an old hymn that says it well. It was written by William O. Cushing. It is called, “Under His Wings”.

1

Under His wings I am safely abiding;

Though the night deepens and tempests are wild, Still I can trust Him, I know He will keep me;

He has redeemed me, and I am His child.

Under His wings, under His wings,

Who from His love can sever?

Under His wings my soul shall abide,

Safely abide forever.

2

Under His wings—what a refuge in sorrow! How the heart yearningly turns to His rest! Often when earth has no balm for my healing,

There I find comfort, and there I am blest.

3

Under His wings—oh, what precious enjoyment! There will I hide till life’s trials are o’er; Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me; Resting in Jesus I’m safe evermore.

Under His wings, under His wings, Who from His love can sever? Under His wings my soul shall abide, Safely abide forever.

Are you safely abiding under His wings today?
